Zoltán Kodály reminded the class of 1953 Academy of Music graduates that a well-trained hand is incomplete without the presence of a well-trained ear, mind, and heart. When all four work in balance together, the whole musician emerges. KSNS strives to meet the needs of developing the whole musician, educators and students alike, as envisioned by Kodály.

The Kodály Society of Nova Scotia sings, listens, plays, creates, and learns in Mi’kma’ki, the traditional and unceded lands of the Mi’kmaw L’nuk. We honour the elders of the Mi’kmaw Nation, both past and present. KSNS commits to fulfilling the promises of the Peace and Friendship Treaties in acts of research, reflection, respect, and remembrance. We are all treaty people.

Mi’k’ma’ki/Nova Scotia is the birthplace of African presence in Canada, reaching back over 400 years. African Nova Scotians are a founding people of this province, having arrived either by or fleeing from enslavement. We honour these ancestors and descendants for their contribution to and profound shaping of the communities that we live and work in.
