KIM (Manitoba)

Kodaly in Manitoba became affiliated with the Manitoba Music Educators Association in 2005. Those interested in Kodaly are invited to join both KSC and MMEA; they can also choose to join KSC via a different province’s branch, in order to access regional newsletters, workshops, & the like. The KIM archives were fully catalogued and deposited with Brandon University, and the remaining financial assets were donated to Brandon’s School of Music.

The Kodály Society of Ontario is a group of music educators dedicated to assisting teachers to teach music in the classroom. Our philosophy of music education comes from the Hungarian Ethnomusicologist Zoltán Kodály who believed that musical literacy was the right of every child.

The mandate of the Kodály Society of Ontario is to assist teachers of music in elementary schools in Ontario, improve the quality of music learning occurring in their classrooms. Our philosophy of music education includes teaching musical concepts in authentic musical contexts. We focus on practical, hands-on ideas within a developmentally appropriate and sequenced context.

Sep 25 2010 KSNS workshops

On Saturday, September 25, the Kodaly Society of Nova Scotia and the Nova
Scotia Choral Federation cohosted a day of workshops called "Tune Up! Sing
Out!". There were three streams available: one for choristers, one for
conductors and one for music educators. Choristers worked with master
conductors on basic vocal technique and score reading. They also rehearsed
several Nova Scotian choral arrangements and participated in the Big Sing at
the end of the day. Conductors worked with Camerata (SATB) in the morning
and Xara (SSA) in the afternoon under the direction of master conductors
Andree Dagenais and Debra Cairns. Music educators had two sessions with Dr.
June Countryman who presented elementary choral materials and also world
musics and improvising for upper elementary classrooms. In the afternoon, Ki
Adams presented a session on Newfoundland and Labrador folksong resources
past and present. Everyone joined together in the late afternoon for a Big
Sing in front of the Public Library in downtown Halifax under the leadership
of Willi Zwozdesky - a celebration of "Culture Days" - the choral way! It
was wonderful to see and to hear so many voices joined together in
friendship and song!
A really great day!
